Bio

This is my 25th year teaching and my seventh year teaching the robotics elective classes at Causey Middle School.  I have previously taught at Robbins Elementary and Dodge Elementary.  I have taught physical education and technology.  Additionally, I have served as a Title I Facilitator, Tech Support Teacher (TST), and as a Technology Coach.  I graduated from the University of Mobile in 2000 with a degree in Physical Education.  I enjoy spending time outside with my two Golden Retrievers, Marley and Macy.  We love to go hiking and camping.  I also enjoy pickleball, running, and cycling.  I am a big sports fan and my favorite teams are the University of Alabama, Auburn University, and the Atlanta Braves.

About Robotics

6th grade introductory class: The robotics course is designed to introduce students to robotics engineering as well as basic programming skills.  Throughout the year students will build, modify, and program a robot to complete different tasks.  Lessons will be enriched with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) as students explore, create, and troubleshoot problems pertaining to their robot.

7th and 8th grade competition team classes: This course is designed to continue students' knowledge of robotics engineering as well as intermediate programming skills. Students will compete in FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge. Throughout the course of the year students will design and build a LEGO robot and then program it to complete a series of missions autonomously to score points in a 2.5 minute robot game match. Students will also research and present an innovative project solution to the yearly theme, Submerged.  Students do all of this while displaying the FIRST core values: discovery, impact, innovation, inclusion, teamwork, fun. Teams will compete in a FLL qualifier tournament with the possibility of some teams advancing to the state championship.  We have five FLL Challenge teams at Causey Middle School.
